Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Countdown!

I've got to put this in my blog template at some point, but here it is. Two months from today.

Ray Park as Snake Eyes

The Official Star Wars Blog has a great photo of Ray Park, AKA Darth Maul, as Snake Eyes from the upcoming GI Joe movie. I'm ashamed to admit it, but I'm kind of looking forward to this.

Jericho Is Really Really Really Really Really Really Cancelled by CBS - TV Decoder - Media & Television - New York Times Blog

According to TV Decoder, Jericho has been canceled. Again. In announcing the (re)cancellation, Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment, said, “Without question, there are passionate viewers watching this program; we simply wish there were more.” The possibility of the show being picked up by a cable network was not ruled out. Do you hear that Sci-Fi?!?!?

RIP Arthur C. Clark

Arthur C. Clark has died at the age of 90 in Sri Lanka, where he had made his home for over 50 years. I remember reading 2001, and later seeing the movie, and being completely blown away by it.

According to Wired, he has written his own epitaph: " "I've often quoted it: 'He never grew up; but he never stopped growing.'" I think that's excellent.

LEGO Recycles

Now even LEGO had gone green. You can now purchase a LEGO Recycle Truck. It's backordered already, so I'm guessing it's pretty popular.

Happy Darwin Day

Today is the anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin on February 12, 1809. Only 43% of Americans believe in evolution, and the president thinks intelligent design should be taught in schools, so please, celebrate Darwin Day.

While you are at it, sign the petition at Science Debate 2008 and call for the presidential candidates to debate on issues of science and technology. I think we have a pretty clear idea where all the remaining candidates stand on the war and the economy, but I would like to know where they stand on things like net neutrality, space exploration, climate change, and stem cell research, and frankly, I'd like to hear them talk about these things in a manner which illustrates that they understand them.

Spy Satellite Threatens Earth

According to Wired News: "A large U.S. spy satellite has lost power and could hit the Earth in late February or early March, government officials said Saturday." The 20,000 pound satellite contains hazardous materials, and is due to make an uncontrolled reentry in February or March. How nice.

A Blacker Black: Darkest Known Material Created

"In the 1984 film, lead guitarist Nigel Tufnel looks at the album cover for the first time and opines, 'It's like, how much more black could this be? And the answer is none, none, none more black.'"

The creation of the darkest material know to exist in the universe is pretty cool, but National Geographic quoting Spinal Tap in its description is even cooler.

Snickers introduces Charged - a caffeinated bar

According to Junk Food Blog, Snickers is introducing a new candy bar, Snickers Charged, to their lineup. which includes B vitamins, caffeine, and taurine. Now, if they would just make one with caffeine, dark chocolate, and almonds instead of peanuts, I would start buying it by the case.

Startup Says It Can Make Ethanol for $1 a Gallon, and Without Corn

According to Wired.com, an Illinois startup claims to be able to produce ethanol from any organic material, at a cost of only one dollar a gallon. The process combines two of the most common methods of ethanol production, and would allow ethanol to be produced locally, out of whatever material happens to be on hand. Unlike corn ethanol, it has no impact on the food supply. This almost sounds to good to be true, but I hope it is, and I hope these guys make millions of dollars.

Kitten sneaks onto flight from Florida to Texas

Great headline. Great quote. Kitten sneaks onto flight from Fla. to Texas: "'I went to unpack and saw some of the clothes and saw it wasn't my suitcase,' Rob Carter tells the paper. 'I was going to close it, and a kitten jumped out and ran under the bed. I screamed like a little girl.'"
