World's Coolest Search Utility Updated
OK, the
Google Toolbar is pretty cool, especially if you use the
Experimental Features, but it's nowhere near as cool as the recently updated, but clumsily named
Dave's Quick Search Deskbar. This handy little search box sits quietly in your taskbar and enables you to quickly search dozens of sites with a few keystrokes. Want to quickly see the IMDB's listing for Harrison Ford? Type imdb harrison ford. That's it. To search ZDnet's downloads for the new version of Trillian, type zdn trillian. To search Amazon.com for Hacking Exposed, type amaz hacking exposed /books. These are just the ones I use every day.
Version 3.0 adds tons of new searches and customization features. Very cool, and free. Of course you can always buy some of
Dave's Cafe Press merchandise to help support this open source effort. Note to Windows XP users, make sure you right click the taskbar and uncheck "lock the taskbar" or you won't be able to see your new toy. You can put it back after you are finished installing.
Oh, and by the way, leave your
sex toys home when you travel by airplane.
The House
voted 420-1 to expel to Ohio Rep. James Traficant as a result of his convictions for bribery, racketeering and tax evasion. The lone dissenting vote? You guessed it, Gary Condit.
Wesley is turning 30. Do you think Picard will still be able to tell him to shut up in
Nemesis? I certainly hope so.
Rant of the Day: A New York City lawyer
is suing four area fast food restaurants for causing his obesity. You want fries with that frivolous lawsuit?
Maybe he should try the
BK Veggie.
Bad News at the West Wing
First they hired Lily Tomlin to be personal secretary to the President. Then they lost Ainsley Hayes to CSI:Miami. Now Sam Seaborn will be exiting the West Wing. Unable to resolve a salary dispute, Rob Lowe has decided to
leave the show. Bummer.
On a postive note, two new trailers are available for your viewing pleasure,
The Two Towers and
Star Trek: Nemesis. Both are very cool.
Only three contestants are left on
The Mole and I still have no idea who the Mole is. It's Dorothy...no Heather...no Bill!
Rant of the Day: I hate when great shows get ruined by stupid decisions. Get a clue NBC! Pay Rob Lowe whatever he wants!
A Disney Classic Finally Comes to DVD (Probably not what you think.)
One of my all-time favorite Disney movies,
The Great Mouse Detective, is finally being released on
DVD. The CGI clock scene was way ahead of it's time and alone is worth the price of admission, but this rodent version of Sherlock Holmes is really a treat. You can even watch the trailer
here. By the way, when did Disney start using such crappy art for their covers?
Quote of the Day: "I'm not a lesbian! I hate men, but I'm not a lesbian!" - Elaine, Seinfeld
Rant of the Day: Why do people insist on doing crossword puzzles in pen and then asking you to help them after they've made a complete mess out of it?
Action Comics No. 1
Want to read Action Comics No. 1 and check out the first appearance of Superman? Don't have a spare half million dollars to buy your own copy? You're in luck! Check out
this site for a complete scan. I'm amazed that anyone owning the
most valuable comic in the world would allow it to be scanned, but there it is. As an aside, it appears that the LAPD has an
active case involving the theft of one of the few remaining copies.
Oh, by the way,
Homer Simpson is Canadian. Eh?
Harrison Ford turns 60!
This should be a national day of mourning. It's hard to believe that
Indiana Jones has a AARP card. (OK so they give those out at 55 now, but still.) I haven't seen any reviews yet for
K-19, but I am, as always, hopefully optimistic. Of course the terrible reviews of
Reign of Fire crushed my hopeful optimism for
Christian Bale to finally make a movie as good as
Empire of the Sun. At any rate, Happy Birthday Harrison, and we're all looking forward to
Indiana Jones 4.
