Towel Day :: A tribute to Douglas Adams (1952-2001)
Tomorrow, May 25th, is
Towel Day. This tribute to
Douglas Adams encourages everyone to carry a towel with them at all times during the day. If you don't get the joke, then you probably aren't familiar with
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and probably shouldn't even be reading my blog. I probably cant' get away with this at my place of employment, unless it was a really small towel that could fit in my pocket, but if you can, I urge you to do it. (By the way, is there a reason the word "blog" isn't in Blogger's spell checker? Is this some kind of weird Google joke?)
Update: The folks at
Astraware, the makers of some of my favorite Palm OS games, such as Bookworm, and Bejeweled,
celebrated Towel Day. Now I like them even more...
How to Save Gas (Or Not)
Edmunds.com has tested the
six most common suggestions for saving gas, dispelling some myths along the way. The good news is that you can feel good about using the air conditioning. The bad news is that their top two tips are "Drive the speed limit." and "Stop driving like a maniac." I'm screwed.
By the way, they seem to be endorsing
over-inflating your tires. Under-inflating your tires may decrease your gas mileage, but over-inflating them could cause the tire to be damaged, which would be costly, too, particularly if, say, you were to destroy a tire, and then crash
Battlestar Galactisimpsons
Someone going by the name of quirkybird has posted an excellent series of illustrations depicting the entire cast of Battlestar Galactica (except poor Helo) as
Simpsons characters. I take some umbrage at Starbuck's unflattering image, but the Tighs and Dualla are dead-on, and Baltar's lasciviousness translates surprisingly well in animated form.
Children of the 80s Rejoice!
Now Playing magazine has some tantalizing tidbits from Brian Henson
in their latest issue. He confirms that he is not only working on a sequel to the
Dark Crystal, but also a
Fraggle Rock feature film, and possibly "something with"
Labyrinth. Ahhhh. I'm so happy.
(Of course the rumors that
Ben Affleck may star in the next Trek film make me less happy, so I'm not going to think about that...)
Hell Freezes Over
After years of insisting that there was only one version of the Original Trilogy, the
Special Edition, George Lucas is finally allowing the release of the
Original Unaltered Trilogy on DVD. After my inevitable purchase of these discs, I will own seven, count 'em, seven versions of the original trilogy. I think I have some form of OCD...
Han shot first! Also, check out the
hilarious trailer for Lego Star Wars II.
Update: This
online comic sums up our frustration.
