ROCKETMANNNNNNNN
Phil Plait's
Bad Astronomy Blog brings us
Rocketman, an almost indescribable clip of William Shatner's "interpretation" of Rocket Man, from the 1978 Saturn Awards. There are so many interesting things about this. He was introduced by Bernie Taupin, whose reaction we unfortunately do not get to see. There is also a link to a discussion of the clip by William Shatner, during which he explains that it was supposed to be funny. (As Scott Adams would say, "It's not funny if you have to explain it.") It makes me wonder if he was making fun of himself all along, and we just didn't know it, or if his recent foray into self-deprecating humor is causing him to cast some of his other work in another light.
