Happy Birthday, Compact Disc. Now Go Away
On August 17, 1982 the first CDs were released, according to this piece on
Wired.com. I remember reading about it in
Omni magazine, and thinking it was a little reminiscent of something I'd seen on Star Trek, which to me, had to be a good thing. I got my first CD player in 1987, and purchased
U2's Unforgettable Fire as my first CD. At the time, I thought that music could not possibly get any cooler. Then came Napster, and again thought music couldn't possibly get any cooler. Now, in 2008, I can't remember when I last purchased a CD. Instead, I listen to
Pandora on my iPhone and download songs directly into it from iTunes, and now I think that music couldn't possibly get any cooler. I wonder what is next.
