Happy Birthday, Compact Disc. Now Go Away
On August 17, 1982 the first CDs were released, according to this piece on Wired.com. I remember reading about it in Omni magazine, and thinking it was a little reminiscent of something I'd seen on Star Trek, which to me, had to be a good thing. I got my first CD player in 1987, and purchased U2's Unforgettable Fire as my first CD. At the time, I thought that music could not possibly get any cooler. Then came Napster, and again thought music couldn't possibly get any cooler. Now, in 2008, I can't remember when I last purchased a CD. Instead, I listen to Pandora on my iPhone and download songs directly into it from iTunes, and now I think that music couldn't possibly get any cooler. I wonder what is next.

A propos of nothing...
My all-time favorite Dilbert strip. This is me at work.
Is There Really a Gay Hutt in 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars'? - Cinematical
According to Cinematical, "Director Dave Filoni was one of many among the crew that was caught off guard by the request. 'Ziro, Jabba's uncle, originally spoke in Hutt-ese, like Jabba and then he had a different sluggish voice just like Jabba, and then George one day was watching it and said 'I want him to sound like Truman Capote."
A hutt that speaks like Truman Capote. This does not bode well.
Quote of the Day: Iron Man Kinda Trashes 'The Dark Knight' - CinematicalRobert Downey Jr., on the Dark Knight" I loved 'The Prestige' but didn't understand 'The Dark Knight'. Didn't get it, still can't tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character and in the end they need him to be a bad guy. I'm like, 'I get it. This is so high brow and so f--king smart, I clearly need a college education to understand this movie.' You know what? F-ck DC comics. That's all I have to say and that's where I'm really coming from."
Can't say I agree with him, as I loved the Dark Knight, but I love that he said it.
11 Reasons Why I Didn’t Completely Hate the ‘Star Wars’ Prequels
The excellent all around geeky entertainment news site Geeks of Doom has a list of 11 Reasons Why I Didn’t Completely Hate the ‘Star Wars’ Prequels. I was glad to see that I am not the only geek who admits to not hating the prequels. Sure, there are things that we all agree could have done better (every scene with Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen, for example) but I honestly do not think they are bad movies. Everyone my age is going to have a hard time comparing them favorably to the original trilogy, but there are things on the list that I agree are great, including the opening battle sequence and final light saber battle in RotS.
Guitar Solos Quiz
Mental Floss has posted a great quiz on Guitar Solos. I went 16 for 16. On a couple I really had to listen for the style of the guitarist, because I just couldn't place the song. (Cinnamon Girl? Sheesh.) Others, like Hotel California, I could have identified with far fewer notes than the quiz provides. The embedded sounds wouldn't play in Firefox 3 for some reason, so you'll have to use the dreaded IE. As a side note, the handy Firefox extension IE View Lite is a very handy way to open an existing Firefox tab in IE.
