A Million Things That Bug Me
Happy Darwin Day
Today is the anniversary of the birth of
Charles Darwin on February 12, 1809. Only 43% of Americans believe in evolution, and the
president thinks intelligent design should be taught in schools, so please, celebrate Darwin Day.
While you are at it, sign the petition at
Science Debate 2008 and call for the presidential candidates to debate on issues of science and technology. I think we have a pretty clear idea where all the remaining candidates stand on the war and the economy, but I would like to know where they stand on things like net neutrality, space exploration, climate change, and stem cell research, and frankly, I'd like to hear them talk about these things in a manner which illustrates that they understand them.

A Blacker Black: Darkest Known Material Created
"In the 1984 film, lead guitarist Nigel Tufnel looks at the album cover for the first time and opines, 'It's like, how much more black could this be? And the answer is none, none, none more black.'"
The creation of the darkest material know to exist in the universe is pretty cool, but National Geographic quoting Spinal Tap in its description is even cooler.

Run for your lives!
In case the velociraptors in Jurassic Park didn't scare the bejesus out of you,
scientists have found conclusive evidence that the velociraptor had feathers: "It's sort of as if you scaled up a chicken and then gave it really nasty teeth and big claws on its feet," said one of the researchers at the
Museum of Natural History. They do say that it appears that they were smaller than they were portrayed in the film, but to me that only means they were faster.
