Why I Love the Big Bang Theory
So I love the Big Bang Theory, which will heretofore referred to as TBBT:
- Last night's episode introduced the game of Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock, which is supposed to result in fewer ties because of greater number of combinations, but which ends in a tie every time, because no one ever picks anything but Spock.
- This line from the same episode: "I am not going to watch the Clone Wars TV series until I've seen the Clone Wars movie. I prefer to let George Lucas disappoint me in the order he intended." (For the record, I watched the movie and all the episodes of the show to date last weekend, and I like it. I am however, known to be a George Lucas apologist, so there you go.)
- The extended argument over which Star Trek movie is the worst. (For once, I disagree with Sheldon, although I am willing to rewatch Star Trek: the Motion Picture to consider his theory. I will not, however, ever watch Star Trek V again.
- The vanity card at the end of the episode which reads:
Dear George Lucas,
May I call you Mr. Lucas? On behalf of the writers of The Big Bang Theory, I would like to thank you for your astounding body of work, which has awakened the child within us and unleashed our dreams. That being said, we hope you don't take offense at our good-natured jest regarding your most recent animated efforts. Yes they were cheap shots, but we can't help but hold you to a higher standard -- a standard of your own making. In closing, we are all looking forward to Indiana Jones 5 - The Curse of the Golden Catheter. Oops, sorry again.
Very truly yours,
The Writers
P.S. To William Shatner, director of Star Trek 5. Go ahead, sue us.
Complete non-sequitor: I watched Cloverfield two hours ago and I'm still a little nauseated. That thing should have come with some sort of warning label...

Battlestar Galactica vs. Star Trek
Mental Floss has a good discussion of
Battlestar Galactica vs. Star Trek. It doesn't fall into the "which is better" trap. (Read the comments on
Digg if that's what you are looking for. I think of BSG as being the anti-Star Trek in a lot of ways, but that doesn't make me like Trek any less. Except Vovager, which was just lame.

BSG Finale- Do not read unless you are caught up!
Highlight with your mouse to read (not you, Jack):
So, although there was no sign of the Statue of Liberty, I'm pretty sure they are in New York. Brooklyn, to be exact. Looking for a screen shot to support my cause...

Jericho Is Really Really Really Really Really Really Cancelled by CBS - TV Decoder - Media & Television - New York Times Blog
According to
TV Decoder, Jericho has been canceled. Again. In announcing the (re)cancellation, Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment, said, “Without question, there are passionate viewers watching this program; we simply wish there were more.” The possibility of the show being picked up by a cable network was not ruled out. Do you hear that Sci-Fi?!?!?

Caprica TV Series Gets Second Chance
There is some good news coming out of the WGA strike. According to
TV Squad, the all-but-forgotten prequel to Battlestar Galactica,
Caprica, which was previously shelved, may end up being broadcast. It appears that only the pilot has already been filmed, but there are a number of scripts already written, and since everyone, including Sci-Fi , is starved for new material, they may give it a shot after all.

Ron Moore has posted
his thoughts about last night's
Sopranos finale. As I found the episode to be one of the most unsatisfying entries television history, I found Ron's comments disturbing to say the least. He sums it up with "It's poetic. It's exciting. It's perfect. And most of all, I wish I'd thought of it first." This from the man who is going to wrap up Battlestar Galactica in less than a year. I wasn't nearly as emotionally invested in the Sopranos as I am in BSG (by a couple of orders of magnitude, I suppose) and the thought of the show ending on such a disappointing note troubles me.

What I'm Watching This Summer
Inspired by the
TV Squad bloggers'
lists, here is my list of what I'm watching this summer while I suffer horribly from Heroes and Battlestar Galactica withdrawal:
Creature Comforts: The premiere episode assuaged my fear that the dry humor of the original British show wouldn't translate well with American talking animals.
Flash Gordon: To be honest, I don't know much about this one, except that it's on Sci Fi, and it's about Flash Gordon, and that's enough for me to take a look.
Eureka: Sci Fi's quirky show about a town full of geniuses and their occasionally explosive "secret" government projects is perfect light summer fare.
The Closer: Kyra Sedgwick's Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson is, well, unlike any other police officer you've ever seen, and the show is a refreshing departure from the multitude of crime dramas which I inexplicably watch, even though I know all the forensics, and always know who the bad guy is.
Weeds: The entire cast of this show is delightful, and the pain and humor is all too real in Showtime's black comedy about a housewife who sells pot to support her family after her husband's untimely demise. Last season's cliffhanger ending ensured my return to this one.
Californication: David Duchovny. That is all.
Oh, and last, but not least, I'll be downloading episodes of
Jericho to my Xbox 360, because any show that can be
brought back from the dead by its fans has got to be worth taking a look at.

Frak!
According to the
Hollywood Reporter.
Battlestar Galactica's upcoming fourth season will be its last. Ron Moore has repeatedly referred to season four as "the beginning of the final act," but I had myself convinced that it would be a two season final act. Given all that happened in the last few episodes, I'm sure we are in for a bumpy ride, but I trust the
BSG crew to bring everything to a close in an appropriate way. The rumors of a fall
HD DVD release for season one cheer me up a bit, but only slightly. Sigh. Thank goodness I still have
Heroes to obsess about.

US version of Creature Comforts may not suck...
Our friends at
TV Squad have posted
some excellent preview clips of the American version of the excellent Aardman series.
Creature Comforts. I'm a huge fan of the original, and I'm foolishly optimistic about this one. I know US versions of UK shows historically are, well, not so good. (Can you say
Payne?) The Office gives me hope that not all things are lost in translation, and the clips are pretty encouraging.
Update: The first episode was indeed very funny. It has a very different feel than the original, since of course all the interview subjects are American, but it's worth a look, and the claymation is beautifully done.
